I won’t lie, I won’t even try to be humble or scale this down, On Monday night 22. March 2021 I had one of the most amazing experience a mere human can ever have. Spending a whole night just a few meters away from an active volcanic eruption is something that’s simply beyond words.
The Fagradaldfjall mountain in Geldingadalur valley started erupting Friday night, but I couldn’t go until Monday to see it. It’s a small but extremely beautiful eruption, like it was simply made for photos and videos. When I say small, bare in mind though that the cone is about 100m high (for my American friends; it’s 20 Ford pickups and 7 semi-automatic assault rifles high).
I hiked in after dark, and the first thing I saw when entering the valley was the cone just spewing out magma from the bowels of the Earth. It felt unreal.
I spent the whole night there just shooting polaroids and videos, but also just relaxing and watching this amazing spectacle of nature.
I’m going to start with a night photo, because that’s how I first saw the volcano. Just red, yellow and black, nothing else.
